Privacy Policy
Osta is a product of Al-Maseer for Software & Computer Systems (Jordan). This page explains exactly what we collect and what we don't. We've written it in plain language, because a privacy policy nobody understands isn't a privacy policy.
Photos — the most important section
When you photograph an appliance or a problem and upload it, the image is sent to Google Gemini (Vertex AI) to be analysed and diagnosed. Under Google's enterprise terms, the image is not used to train their models and is not retained.
Osta itself stores no photos at all. The image is processed in memory during the request and then discarded. We keep no copy, we don't look at it, and we cannot retrieve it later.
We no longer say "your photos never leave our servers" — that line used to be here and we removed it, because it is no longer accurate. The photo does leave, to Google, to be analysed. The honest statement is: we keep nothing.
Voice
If you record a voice note to describe the problem, it is transcribed on our own server (a local faster-whisper model) and is not sent to any third party. The audio is processed in memory and is never stored.
What we do log (metadata only)
We keep an anonymous usage log so we can tell whether the product is working. It contains:
- The appliance identified (e.g. washing machine) and the model if one was read
- The severity the system assigned, and whether the request succeeded or failed
- How long it took
- Your country (from Cloudflare's
cf-ipcountryheader) - A hashed fingerprint of your IP address — to count unique visitors. We do not store the raw IP
- A short excerpt of the problem text you typed (100 characters maximum)
There is no login, no account, no name, no email address. We do not know who you are.
Advertising — plainly disclosed
The repair guide pages (everything under /guides/) carry advertising from Google AdSense. Those ads are what keep Osta free.
- The ads are set to Non-Personalized — they are not based on tracking your behaviour or building an interest profile of you. They're based on the content of the page you're reading and your approximate location.
- Even non-personalised ads use cookies for frequency capping and aggregate reporting. That's a technical fact, and we'd rather state it than bury it.
- There is no advertising anywhere in the diagnosis experience — not on the upload screen, not on the result card. That space is deliberately ad-free.
- No pop-ups. No interstitials that block the page.
For more on how Google uses data across advertising partners, see Google's own policy.
Affiliate links
Some of the tool and spare-part links in the guides are affiliate links. If you buy through one, we may earn a small commission from the store — at no extra cost to you. It does not influence which parts we recommend; we recommend what fixes the problem, not what pays best.
Technicians (the 'need a pro?' panel)
When we show you a technician, we take no commission on any work you agree with them, we make no booking, and we pass them none of your data. You press the button and you contact them directly. Osta is not a broker and not a marketplace.
If you use 'find a technician near you' in a country where we have no curated list, that opens a Google Maps search — which uses your approximate location (never your photos).
What we don't do
- We don't sell your data to anyone. Ever.
- We don't keep your photos.
- We don't require an account or an email address to use the diagnosis.
- We don't put ads inside the diagnosis flow.
- We don't run personalised, behaviour-tracked advertising.
Your rights
Because we don't store your photos and don't know who you are, there is no 'file' on you to request the deletion of — that's by design. If you have any question about your data, write to us and we'll answer.
